Ariane 5 cryogenic tank production. Worker (right) feeding a liquid oxygen line and electrical wires into an Ariane 5 cryogenic tank. This tank forms the main stage of the Ariane 5 rocket. The interior is divided into two compartments. The small forward section holds 130 tonnes of liquid oxygen and the larger rear section holds 25 tonnes of liquid hydrogen. The tank is made of 3mm-thick aluminium, insulated on the outside by a 2cm layer of expanded polyurethane. The ends of the tanks are also insulated and have an aluminium foil covering for protection. Photographed at the Cryospace factory, Les Mureaux, France.
