Poppies at Sunset, Wiltshire,England


Evocative image of the sun setting over a field of poppies in Wiltshire England. Poppy Day, also known as Remembrance Day, marks the passing of those who have died in the line of duty. The red poppy has become an emblem of Remembrance Day, blooming across the battlefields of Flanders in World War 1. They symbolise thge blood spilled in war. The setting sun recalls the poem written by Robert Laurence Binyon. Entitled "For the Fallen" it was publlshed in the Times newspaper on September 21, 1914. It includes the lines: "At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them".
