An old press photograph of a British woodland worker finishing the final rod of a hand-woven wattle hurdle ( circa 1940's) -----. The craft of making moveable wattle hurdles and gates to be used to section off parts of a field etc or for use as a fence is a task that stretches way back into history. Though many farmers would make their own, woodland craftsmen did and still do manufacture them by hand in Britain today as an occupation. Remains of Neolithic and Iron Age willow and hazel hurdles have been found by archaeologists in bogland areas throughout Britain
