Close-up shot of immature spikelets of Rye Brome / Bromus secalinus, a potentially troublesome weed of UK cereal crops.

Rye Brome / Bromus secalinus is one of five bromegrass species which grow as arable weeds in the UK. It is an aggressive / invasive grassy weed infesting growing among cereal crops like Winter Rye / Secale cereale and Winter Wheat / Triticum aestivum. It can become a major contaminant of seed harvested for sowing next year's crops since it matures at about the same time.
