Young monks stand in line waiting to receive food from the community around the Mahagandayon monastery in Amarapura, Myanmar. The people give alms daily in the morning as a sign of respect to these keepers of the Buddhist faith in Burma. The novitiates at the monastery collect the food in their bowls and it is then portioned out to all of the monks. A large amount of food is, in turn, given by the monks to street people swallowed by poverty and circumstance.
