A portrait of British MP John Wilkes - 1725-1797 ( Member of Parliament for Aylesbury 1757 and English radical, journalist, wit, libertine and politician. His sister Sarah Sarah was said to have been the inspiration for Charles Dickens’ character Miss Havisham in Great Expectations. Wilkes was a Fellow of the Royal Society and was appointed High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, He was also member of the Knights of St. Francis of Wycombe, also known as the Hellfire Club or the Medmenham Monks and of the Order of Oddfellows
