We Need Hawaii

American Empire Circa 1900 Cigar Label with William McKinley Portrait. President McKinley with "American Empire" above and "Deservedly Popular" below- McKinley was president from 1897 until his assassination shortly after the beginning of his second term in 1901. He fought the Spanish-American War in response to the reported Spanish atrocities in Cuba and the sinking of the battleship Maine. After the easy victory in the war, McKinley engaged in a bit of "empire building" by annexing the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Hawaii. We need Hawaii just as much and a good deal more than we did California. It is Manifest Destiny.” William McKinley
