The burial chamber of Pant y Saer Neolithic tomb, Benllech, Anglesey: capstone has slipped E & the W sidestone is missing: front of tomb is to N (L)

The burial chamber of Pant y Saer Neolithic tomb: the capstone has slipped E & the W sidestone is missing. The front of the tomb was to the N (L) where the kidney-shaped covering cairn formed a forecourt, the focus for pottery & other offerings. Used for burials over a long period, the remains of 54 persons - Neolithic men, women & children including 9 full-term foetuses - were placed in the chamber in the 3rd millennium BC. In the 2nd millennium BC a stone cist with 2 Bronze Age inhumations & a beaker were inserted into the chamber; the chamber's W sidestone may have been used to cover the cist.
