Common rue foliage (Ruta graveolens 'Jackman's Blue'). As well as being grown as an ornamental plant, common rue has been used as a medicinal plant for centuries. It is cited to relieve indigestion and to promote the onset of menstruation in women. For this reason its oil has been used as an abortifacient (inducing abortion). An ointment made from rue can be used to treat arthritis, rheumatism and neuralgia. Rue can be used as a culinary herb but it has a very bitter taste.
