Palatino's Writing Implements, 1540
In Rome in 1540, Giambattista Palatino published his Libro nuovo d'imparare a scrivere ("New Book for Learning to Write"), which turned out to be one of the most influential books on writing from the 16th century. Palatino type was named after him. This illustration of writing implements is from that book.
