Chernobyl: Ukraine. Bumper. Bumper was taken in the fairground at Pripryat ( or Pryp'yat) the Atomic City built next to Chernobyl. The 50,000 inhabitants had sports and swimming facilities, scools and a sopermarket unlike most cities in the Soviet Union. The funfair was due to open for Mat Day. But the nuclear accident happened just 3 days before. It was never used. This image was a finalist in the 2015 Environmental Photographer of the Year competition in 2015, and was part of my 2014 'Unsustainable Cities?' exhibition at the Royal Geographical Society in London.

Enironmental Photographer of the Tear, 2015, commended: Exhibited twice in separate exhibitions at The Royal Geographical Society, London.
