English Common Names: Crown Vine, Monkey Ladder Vine, Wreath Vine. Bauhinia guainensis gets its name from indentations in the trunk that look like steps. Amazonian "Tukuna" use stem for kidney diseases. "Taiwanos" consider the seed diuretic. The root is boiled with "sarabatuco" to treat amoeba in Amazonian Brazil. Considered ichthyotoxic. Also used in handicrafts.
