Green rural valley view, from Grand View Hotel, Agave plants, metal homes, garden plots, Hillsborough, Carriacou, West Indies

At 34 square kilometres (13 square miles) and 16 mile long, Carriacou is the largest island of the Grenadines. The climate is tropical and the hilly terrain slopes to white beaches. There are no rivers and local residents rely on rainwater for their water supply. Hillsborough, seen here, looking south, is the largest settlement on the island, which is part of Grenada. Boat-building, fishing and sea-faring feature in the local economy. Valley view from the Grand View Hotel, on the north side of Hillsborough.
