Supernova Remnant 1E 0102, composite HST image


Composite Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of supernova remnant 1E 0102, located in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). Supernova remnant 1E 0102 is the gaseous remains of an exploded massive star that erupted approximately 1,700 years ago. This composite is made of separate red, green and blue filtered exposures taken with the Wide Field Camera 3.
