Orchid flowers (Doritis pulcherrima). Only one of the flowers is fully open, revealing a differently shaped petal (pink and brown, lower right). This is the lip, a specialised petal that helps attract pollinators and provides them with a landing platform. This orchid is a terrestrial orchid (one that grows in the ground). It is found in South- East Asia. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
