Pallasites are stone-iron meteorites, which formed following the breakup of protoplanets in the early solar system, or from later catastrophic planetary impacts. Here shown is a detail of the cut and polished surface of the Seym Chan meteorite, provenance Magadan district, Russia, showing the characteristic stone-iron nature of pallasites. The metallic fraction is composed of iron-nickel, the stone fraction of olivine. Actual width is 14 cm
