Siberian lodestone with armature. Very large piece of magnetite, obtained in 1810 from Siberia for Martinus van Marus by Parrot, professor of physics at Dorpat (modern Tartu, Estonia). The magnetite is armed with iron and is encased in copper. Van Marum's inentory notes that it will lift '200 ponden'.
