Stormont, Parliament Buildings, the seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Northern Ireland Executive, Belfast, UK.

he Parliament Buildings ( built: 1922-1932 ), commonly known as Stormont because of their location in the Stormont area of Belfast, are the seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Northern Ireland Executive. They previously housed the defunct Parliament of Northern Ireland. The architect Sir Arnold Thornley designed a Classical building with six round columns and a central triangular pediment. Fronted in Portland stone and ornamented with statues and bas relief carvings, Stormont shares many similarities with Neoclassical government buildings found in many parts of the world.
