Yellow nail syndrome. Discoloured and damaged toe nails on the hands of a 70-year-old female patient with yellow nail syndrome. This rare condition causes yellowing and degeneration (dystrophy) of the nail tissue, as well as pleural effusions (excess fluid accumulated in the pleural cavity) and lymphoedema (fluid retention). It can also be associated with bronchiectasis, chronic sinusitis and persistent coughing.
