The dad bird felt an instinctive urge to care for the chicks. PURBASTHALI; INDIA: ASTOUNDING images have shown a tiny daddy bird feeding chicks from another species that are double his size. The caring adopting father, a purple sunbird, had probably suffered the loss of his own chicks and felt a strong desire to dote on another brood. At just 10cm from beak to tail, he was absolutely puny compared to the newly-hatched Asian paradise flycatchers he was feeding, but nonetheless worked tirelessly to find insects for them to eat. It seemed as if the lucky baby birds were only too happy to receive some extra grub as they dangled from a mango tree in their nest in Purbasthali, West Bengal, India. Purple sunbirds eat mostly nectar and can hover like hummingbirds to drink from flowers but will also feed protein-rich insects to young chicks to help them thrive. Asian paradise flycatchers are 22cm long as adults, not including the spectacular tail of the male which adds an extra 9cm in length. These gorgeous photographs were taken on Nikon D850 camera by Sunny Saha Pramanick (37) an IT professional and Wildlife Photographer from Kolkata. ?I think it's probably because the male sunbird had lost his kids or they might have died so he was treating them as his own kids," he said.
