Vietnam: St. Joseph Cathedral, Hanoi (early 20th century). The seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Hanoi, St. Joseph Cathedral was controversially constructed in 1886 on the site of an ancient pagoda just one year after the French took over the administration of Tonkin and Annam. Built in Neo-Gothic style, the cathedral is still one of the most famous examples of French architecture in Vietnam.
