Manchester marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme today (Fri 1st July 2016) with a moving tribute. Actors dressed as First World War soldiers walked , marched , relaxed with a smoke and formed military formations in and around Manchester Piccadilly train station. They occasionally handed out cards to commuters with the names of soldiers who died during the battle. National Theatre head Rufus Norris and artist Jeremy Deller were behind a Somme commemoration project with men dressed as World War One soldiers.
