Euphorbia splendens / Euphorbia milii Crown of Thorns

Euphorbia splendens / Euphorbia milii Crown of Thorns The crown of thorns is a Madagascan native that is now widely cultivated for its red blooms and thorny stems. While it is a succulent plant it can be treated almost like a creeper with stems up to 2 metres long. The small oval leaves are shed in dry conditions and the plant will grow perfectly well with no leaves at all. The crown of thorns requires sunny conditions and thrives in arid gardens close to the sea. The small, tubular flowers come in terminal clusters and are produced throughout the year. Propagation is from stem cuttings although the crown of thorns does set seed on occasion.
