BRITISH ISLES -- 07 January 2010 - This NASA satellite image shows the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland almost entirely blanketed in winter snows. Extreme low temperatures caused by a blocking high pressure front preventing warm air and currents from the south west, instead bringing the Arctic blast from the north east. BBC News reported temperatures as being lower then Arctic North Pole on the night of 7th January 2010. It is a similar scene across much of northern Europe and the heavy snow and temperatures as low as -20oC have brought travel chaos and disruption to most of the region - Photo: Geopix/NASA
