Members of the public attend a free health check to screen for diabetes Keighley West Yorkshire Health workers in Airedale are starting a new screening programme to alert members of the South Asian community to the risk of diabetes Nationally it is believed that one in four adults aged over 25 from the South Asian community suffer from diabetes and many are unaware of it There is also a 40 60 greater risk of an early death due to cardiovascular disease amongst South Asian people The main factors for this are believed to genetic lifestyle and waist circumference
