Two bark headbands hang in a betrothal tree in Hamar territory, in South Omo, Ethiopia, in October, 2006. During the Hamar betrothal ceremony, the bride takes off her fiancé's headband and hangs it in a special tree used for the purpose. The 40,000-strong, cattle-herding Hamar are among the largest of the 20 or so ethnic groups which inhabit the culturally diverse South Omo region in south-west Ethiopia.
