USDA vs Lanternflies

Bethany Benedict, Plant Protection and Quarantine technician with the Department of Agriculture, checks grapes for spotted lanternflies in Manheim, Pennsylvania, on August 29, 2018. The USDA is working to address the spread of the spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula), a destructive insect that feeds on a wide range of ornamental, woody, and fruit trees, and has the potential to become a major agricultural pest. Native to China, it was first detected in Pennsylvania in 2014, and has since been found in several nearby states.
