A Cuban marble statue of José Julián Martí Pérez at the site of the 109 m (358 ft) Memorial Tower, one of Havana’s main landmarks and tourist attractions in the centre of Plaza Revolution in the Vedado district of Havana, Cuba. José Julián Martí Pérez is Cuba’s national hero (1853-1895). He was a nationalist, poet, philosopher, essayist, journalist, translator, professor, and publisher. José Julián Martí Pérez, born in Havana, is considered a Cuban national hero because of his role in the liberation of his country from Spain. He was also an important figure in Latin American literature. The international airport in Havana is also named after him.
