TEOTIHUACAN, Mexico - The Temple of the Feathered Serpent at Teotihuacan. Also known as the Temple of Quetzalcoatl. Teotihuacan is an ancient Mesoamerican city located about 25 miles outside modern-day Mexico City. Consisting of extensive ruins and a series of large pyramids, the city had a population estimated of around 125,000 at its peak. The city is thought to have been established around 100 BCE, with major monuments continuously under construction until about 250 CE and may have lasted until sometime between the 7th and 8th centuries CE, but its major monuments were sacked and systematically burned around 550 CE.
