Blue and Pink Polyanthus with Winter Aconites in Garden Setting with watering can

The Primula family comprises a number of hardy perennials including Primula veris, the cowslip, and Primula vulgaris, the primrose. The polyanthus is a hybrid of these two, with characteristic whorls of primrose flowers in a huge variety of colours, carried on strong stems above a rosette of oval leaves. It used to be thought that the snowdrop was native to the far south west of England and the Welsh borders. However, it was first recorded growing in the wild in the 18th century, after being cultivated over here since 1598. As such, although formally considered native, it is actually a recent arrival.
