Torre de los Ingleses (English Tower), Retiro, Buenos Aires, Argentina night
The original Torre de los Ingleses (Tower of the English) was built as a gift by the British community in Argentina to celebrate the centenial of the May Revolution of 1810. It sits in what was known as Plaza Brittanica in front of Retiro railway station (also built by the British - as were the continent’s most extensive railway and subway transportation systems). After the 1982 Falkland/Malvinas War the tower was renamed Torre Monumental (though most people still refer to it as the Torre de los Ingleses) and the plaza renamed Plaza Fuerza Aérea Argentina (Argentine Air Force Plaza).
