HORMONE DEPENDENT CANCER, ILLUSTRATION

Illustration of the formation of a hormonodependent tumour. Tumour growth is stimulated by hormones : tumour cells have an abnormal quantity of specific receptors on their surface (hormonal hypersensitivity), when the hormone latches on to these receptors, cell multiplication is stimulated, favouring the development of the tumour. Hormonodependent tumours form mainly in tissue which are normally regulated by hormones (prostate cancer, breast cancer).
