Rome, Italy - October 2014; The Mausoleum of Hadrian, usually now known as Castel Sant'Angelo is a massive cylindrical building in Parco Adriano in the heart of Rome, Italy. It was initially commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. The building was later used by the popes as a fortress and castle, and is now a museum. The Castel was once the tallest building in Rome. This is the classic view to the Mausoleum across the Ponte Sant'Angelo, once the Aelian Bridge or Pons Aelius, meaning the Bridge of Hadrian. This was completed in 134 AD by Hadrian, in order to span the Tiber from the city center to the newly constructed mausoleum.
