View NW of The Almshouse Cottages, Horton-cum-Studley, Oxfordshire, UK, built 1639 for Sir George Croke to house 4 local men aged over 60 & 4 local women over 50 who were religious & of good character & convesation (no swearing). Originally divided into 8 units, the row now consists of 4, one-bedroomed 'bungalows' (residents were reduced to 2 men & 2 women in 1880) still run by The George Croke's Charity. A row of single-storey almshouses in red brick (English bond) with limestone ashlar dressings. A plain red tile roof with 4 tall, moulded brick ridge stacks & 8 chimney pots. One stack has the remains of a stone sundial, & there is a stone tablet in Latin on the front wall.
