Thorax and abdomen, illustration

Illustration of a lateral view of a dissected male trunk. Left and right ventricles of the heart and the left lung are shown. Below the cut diaphragm from left to right is the liver, stomach and spleen with part of the greater omentum (pale brown) forming a horizontal band. Coils of jejunum (brown) and dilated ileum (blue-pink) occupy the abdomen together with the transverse and descending colon (light blue). In the pelvis the urinary bladder (light brown) is pierced on its right margin by the ureter (blue) with the vas deferens (blue) emerging from the scrotum passing over the bladder to enter into the prostate (dark red) located inferiorly. The rectum is shown terminating at the anal canal. From Lizars, J. 1823 A system of anatomical plates of the human body. Lizars, Edinburgh.
