Woodmont Hunting Lodge Woodmont Rod and Gun Club near Hancock Maryland View from the porch overlooking the Potomac West Virginia

Historic hunting lodge near Hancock, Md, overlooking the Potomac River and West Virginia. The property's history started after the Civil War when a group of people decided to purchase and preserve the land so members of the Woodmont Rod and Gun Club of Washington, , could relax, hunt and fish. The first clubhouse was built in 1872 but the structure and many of its records burned in 1903. The current lodge was built in 1930. Woodmont is now managed as a cooperative effort under the Fort Frederick State Park Complex and the Maryland Wildlife and Heritage Service. The lodge building is open to the public twice a year. Among the many treasures is a rocker chair with the names of six US presidents who have used it. - Woodmont Lodge, 11761 Woodmont Road, Hancock, Maryland 21750
