The Elgin Fire Barn No. 5, now a museum, was built in 1903 and decommissioned in 1991. The structure was the last functioning fire barn in service in the city of Elgin. In its day, horses occupied the first floor with firefighters relegated to the second floor. The building is built in a Classical Revival Style.
