Scenic view of the Cordillera Mountains and Baguio City, Luzon Island, Philippines. Baguio is called the "City of Pines" because of all the pine trees that grow there. The altitude keeps the temperature moderate in the 70s most of the year. Baguio is also called the "Summer Capital" as it serves as a retreat from the heat for affluent Filipinos and tourists. Mountains in the background display what is known as Rembrandt Blues, a succeeding recession of blue tones. Low clouds and mist hang over the city. Because of the cool weather and because of overbuilding, urban sprawl is endangering the environment and quality of life. Overpopulation and severe congestion are major issues in Baguio.
