Pyrite, crystal block. Pyrite is also known as pyrite, or fool's gold cat, hepatic iron, and under its chemical name iron (II)-disulfide, FeS2. It is a very frequently occurring mineral from the mineral class of "sulfides and sulfosalts." Pyrite is mined for the production of sulfuric acid.
