A late 19th century view of the statue of Henry Grattan (1746-1820), an Irish politician and lawyer who campaigned for legislative freedom for the Irish Parliament in the late 18th century from Britain. A superb orator, he demanded that Ireland should be granted its rightful status, of an independent nation. The statue stands in College Green, Dublin outside the the Bank of Ireland building, which until 1800 was Ireland's Parliament House.
