Guttation. This is the exudation of sap from the plant's xylem, which transports water. It occurs when the stomata (leaf pores) are closed at night and pressure builds up in the xylem. Unlike dew, which is the condensation of water on a leaf and occurs all over the leaf, guttation only occurs at the leaf edges.
