A 19th Century and newly arrived emigrant family and their wagon in Kansas, USA. After the Civil War and before 1890, more than one million people streamed into Kansas seeking a new life on the frontier. They came to claim the free land offered to settlers by the Homestead Act passed by the Congress in 1862.
