This is one of the best known of garden flowers, and in recent years a vast im- provement has been effected, by careful selection in size aid color of the blossoms and the general habit of the plant. Seeds sown in the ojien ground before the close of April will produce flowering plants by ihe beginning of July, and give a continuous succession of flowers from then until frost, a record that is not sur- passed by any other annual. They make handsome beds or lines, and their free, ^jraceful hab:t and bright colors are very efiective when interspersed in the old- lashioned flower or shubbery border.
