1900. A biographical press report and portrait of William John Lyne (1844-1913), Premier of New South Wales, Australia who had been invited to become the 1st Federation Premier of the new Australian Federation. A former squatter in the Murray Valley who came from a Scottish family, he is best known as the subject of the "Hopetoun Blunder", for being asked to serve as the first Prime Minister of Australia but failing to form a government.
