It waslaid out by Richard Malone in January, 1876, but little attempt wasmade to develop it until 1905, when the Chicago, Indiana & SouthernRailroad was put through the western part of the county from Dan-ville, Illinois, to Indiana Harbor, Lake Michigan. In November ofthat year, the month before trains commenced to run over the line,Bryants and Hess additions were made to the original site; in 346 JASPER AND NEWTON COUNTIES March, 1906, A\illiams addition was platted and in March, 1908,that of John and Charles Hess. Also, on the same line of the New York Central System wereplatted the following: Ade, laid out by Warren T. McCray, in May,1906; Enos, by R- &• L. Bartlett, in June, 1907, and Conrad, by JennieM.
