The execution of Major Andre, October 2, 1780. John Andre, 1751 - 1780. British army major during the American Revolutionary War. He was captured behind American lines whilst on a mission and hanged as a spy. From Edward Barnard's The New, Impartial and Complete History of England published 1790.
