Ginkgo biloba leaf against green background

The Ginkgo was once thought extinct in the wild. But its now believed that some wild trees still grow in regions of eastern China. The tree is very pollution tolerant so cultivars of it are often planted in cities. An ancient species, fossils dating to the Permian have been found. Extracts from the leaves are used in certain pharmaceuticals and herbal supplements.
