Mt Hekla has been active for centuries. Many old tales are told that the souls of the condemned travel through Helka’s crater on the way to hell. It is thought that there have been 20 eruptions since the settlement of Iceland with the last eruption in 2000. Scientist believe it is due to erupt again, but when exactly is never known!
