According to the Greek legend as told by Homer in the "Odyssey," when the hero Odysseus returned home to Ithaca from the Trojan War, a journey that had taken him 20 years, he found his palace overrun with suitors vying for the hand of his wife. After ridding the palace of the suitors, he goes to see his father Laertes (seen here).
