Candidiasis is any infection caused by a species of the Candida genus of yeastlike fungi. Many common diseases, as diaper rash, thrush, vaginitis, and dermatitis, are caused by Candida infestations. A warm, moist environment will aid the growth of Candida. Some drugs destroy helpful bacteria as well as harmful ones and allow the fungus to grow. Gentian violet is a drug used on the skin. Antifungal drugs may be used for some infections.
